Two Post-doctoral Researchers to Join the Political Science Department
We are excited to announce that two exceptional post-doctoral researchers will be joining the Department of Political Science this year.
Dr. Ileana Nicolau has joined the research team “Protecting the internally displaced: Sovereignty, agency and the localization of international norms” as a post-doctoral researcher in April 2024. Her research interests lie in internal displacement, and more specifically, IDP policies and politics, and their relationship with state sovereignty. She received her PhD in Political and Social Sciences on IDP protection norms in Colombia, Peru, and Kenya, at the European University Institute. She also holds a bachelor's in Latin-American studies and a master’s in international security from Sciences Po. Ileana has taught on international and forced migration and has worked on related issues for organisations such as UNHCR, IDMC, and the European Commission.
Dr. Patricia García Amado is a postdoctoral researcher at McGill Political Science department. She holds a PhD in Human Rights by the University of Deusto and her dissertation explores the housing rights of urban IDPs, particularly tenure security as an element of local integration processes in Kampala, Uganda. With a background in Political Science (BA), Humanitarian and Peace Studies (MSc), Patricia has lectured on forced migration, humanitarian protection, HLP and livelihoods in displacement, and carried out research at academic and humanitarian institutions, mostly on the African continent. Her research interests lie on HLP in displacement, agency in displacement, and IDPs integration processes. She is currently working on the project "Protecting the internally displaced: Sovereignty, agency and the localization of international norms" at McGill University.
We are thrilled to have them as part of our team and look forward to the contributions they will make to the department.
