Kalia (Kali) Hoechstetter is a master’s student in the Department of Political Science at McGill University, specializing in international relations and research methods. Her research, supervised by Fernando G. Nuñez-Mietz, explores the intersection of international law, norms, and international security—particularly whether and how international humanitarian law influences the conduct of combatants in the perpetration of conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV) during intrastate conflicts.
Previously, Kalia worked at the United Nations Office on Sexual Violence in Conflict, the Post-Conflict Research Center in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and MADRE, an international women’s rights organisation. She is a graduate of the Honors College at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where she earned bachelor’s degrees in political science and Spanish, along with a certificate in international relations and a Letter of Specialization in data analytics.
Kali is currently serving as the CIPSS Communications Coordinator (2024 - 2025).
