Daniel (he/him) is a PhD student in the Department of Political Science at McGill University, specializing in international relations and comparative politics. His doctoral research, supported by the Richard H. Tomlinson Doctoral Fellowship, the SSHRC Doctoral Fellowship, and a Department of National Defence Minds Scholarship Initiative Supplement, focuses on the relationship between so-called 'rogue states' and global governance. His other research interests East Asian politics and international relations (especially North and South Korea), as well as political science education.
Prior to coming to McGill, Daniel served as the Deputy-Director of Research and Policy for the Asia-Pacific at the Canadian Centre for the Responsibility to Protect (CCR2P) where he managed a team of undergraduate research associates exploring the opportunities and limits of the R2P doctrine in North Korea, Malaysia, and Xinjiang. He has also been involved with the Asia-Pacific Foundation of Canada, most recently as a member of the 2022 Korea Election Watch.
Daniel holds a B.A. (Hons. Korean Language and Culture, International Relations) and an M.A. (Political Science) from the University of British Columbia.
