Doctorant à l’Université de Montréal, Vahid Yücesoy s’intéresse à l’économie politique du Moyen Orient. Plus précisément, ses intérêts de recherche portent sur les politiques pétrolières, la démocratisation, les États rentiers ainsi que les Islamistes au pouvoir. Sous la cotutelle de Marie-Joëlle Zahar de l’Université de Montréal et Norrin Ripsman de l’Université Concordia, sa thèse s’intéresse aux liens entre les pressions économiques externes (sanctions, conditionnalités, investissement direct étranger) des Islamistes et la modération des Islamistes. Boursier du FRQSC, Vahid parle couramment anglais, français, turc, persan, azéri en plus d’avoir une connaissance de niveau intermédiaire du kurde.

Vahid Yücesoy is a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Montreal specializing broadly on the political economy of the Middle East. More specifically, his research interests deal with the politics of oil, rentier states, democratization as well as Islamists in politics. Co-supervised by Marie-Joëlle Zahar from the University of Montréal and Norrin Ripsman from the University of Concordia, his Ph.D. dissertation will explore the link between external economic pressure (sanctions, conditionality, foreign direct investment) and the moderation of Islamists in power. He holds the FRQSC graduate scholarship since autumn 2014 and speaks English, French, Turkish, Persian, and Azeri fluently along with an intermediate knowledge of Kurdish.
