"The Reluctant Governors: How Corporations became Conflict Prevention Actors"

Dr. Virginia Haufler is a faculty member in the Department of Government and Politics, University of Maryland and an associate of the Center for International Development and Conflict Management (CIDCM). She is currently the Fulbright Canada-Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation Fellow 2022-23 and Joint Chair in Contemporary Public Policy, McGill Institute for the Study of Canada. She is associated with the Earth System Governance Project, the Ethics of Engagement Project, Women in International Security, among others. She has been a visiting fellow, consultant, and advisor at a number of universities, think tanks, and non-profits in the US and abroad.

Her research explores the changing nature of global governance under globalization, focusing on private governance and corporate social responsibility. Her current projects include an analysis of complexity in the regime for corporate conflict prevention; and risk and corporate climate commitments in the financial sector.
